robert girvin was born and raised in rural west texas on his family’s cattle ranch.
his influences include hands-on labor, utilitarian design, the vast skies of the
chihuahuan desert and the art community of marfa texas, donald judd’s work in
marfa, open space, wood shop, leather goods, working the ranch, early country
and western music and his grandmother.
he attended california college of the arts where he studied industrial design.
after completing his studies at cca he moved to southeast asia where he lived
and worked in industrial design and manufacturing for six months in the dense
populus of hồ chí minh city and rural bình dương province.
currently he lives in the duboce triangle neighborhood of san francisco.
